The perimeter of a rectangle is 36 ft. The length is 2 less then 3 times the width. What is the Length? what is the Width?

perimeter is equal to 2 times the length plus 2 times the width
P= 2L + 2 W
L=3W-2  using the substitution in perimeter equation 
P = 2(3W-2)+2W=36 , WE SOLVE THIS EQUATION
 6W-4 +2W=36
8W=36+4
8W=40
W=40/8=5
W=5
L=3*5-2=15-2=13

P=(2*5)+(2*13)=10+26=36
