First you have to factor the equation to find what the solutions are.
2x^2+x-3=0
(2x+3)(x-1)=0
Now you can set each term in the () equal to 0. Solve for x. X is equal to the solutions.
2x+3=0    x-1=0
-3 -3     +1+1
2x=-3        x=1
2    2
x=-$\frac{3}{2}$
The solutions are x=-$\frac{3}{2}$  and x=1.
